WHATS YOUR REFERENCE POINT FOR 2023? A reference point gives you direction and purpose. A person without a reference point in life is like a boat without an anchor in a storm.

People who don’t have a reference point are at the mercy of what life brings to them. People with a reference point stay focused on what they want from life. If you wandered aimlessly year you will do the same this year unless you get a reference point in life.

Since 2020 Covid the whole world lives with a sense of uncertainty of what tomorrow holds for them.

KEY: HAVE A REFERENCE POINT – Helps give you direction even in storms of life - Paris Eifel tower / Egypt Pyramids / Auckland sky tower.

Our spiritual reference point “the short term and long term WILL OF GOD for our lives!” Matt 6:33

Example: Peter walking on water – his reference point was Jesus – provided he kept his eyes on Jesus as His reference point in the storm – he did what human wisdom, and the laws of physics say are impossible.

Col 3:23-24

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

No matter how uncertain things get in this world, as believers we know that our future is incredibly bright no matter what happens. The centre of human history doesn’t revolve around White House, Kremlin, Beijing, 10 Downing st, or beehive It ultimately revolves around the will of God.What a person chooses their life to revolve around becomes their reference point in life – it also defines them.

Career – sport – politics – culture – medicine – teaching – money – acting – journalism – drugs – sex – crime – gangs – dramas As believers our lives revolve around Christ – He’s our reference point in good times and bad – He defines us.

“JESUS AT THE CENTRE” HAS BEEN THE THEME FOR 2022 based on Cols 3:23-24 As you have applied this – undoubtedly you have prospered – even in storms.

THIS IS YOUR WHAT AND YOUR WHY A KING WHO TOOK HIS EYES OFF THE WILL OF GOD / HIS REFERENCE POINT: KING UZZIAH 52 year reign, one of most successful Kings.2 Chron 26:5 / Matt6:33

And he King Uzziah sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.- Broke down the walls of philistine strongholds.- Nation brought gifts and his fame spread to Egypt.

  • He built fortified towers of protection on the city gates.
  • He dug many wells in the desert causing agriculture and livestock farms to prosper.
  • He had a huge band of invincible special forces troops in their hundreds of thousands.
  • He armed his armies with the latest military equipment known at that time.- He invented huge special slingshot machines that could through arrows and rocks.

2 Chronicles 26:15-16

15 In Jerusalem he made devices invented for use on the towers and on the corner defenses so that soldiers could shoot arrows and hurl large stones from the walls. His fame spread far and wide, for he was greatly helped until he became powerful / strong. 16 But after Uzziah became powerful / strong, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.

2 Chronicles 26:21

King Uzziah had leprosy until the day he died. He lived in a separate house —leprous, and banned from the temple of the LORD. Jotham his son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.

PROBLEM: When he stopped seeking the presence of the Lord, when he stopped doing everything as unto the Lord in all his ways – he stopped prospering. When he began to take credit for the success God had given him his humility left and arrogance and pride came in.Lesson: For your success in 2023 don’t stop seeking the Lord first, and don’t take credit for your success.

Matt 6:33 / Cols 3:23 KEEP THE WILL OF JESUS AS YOU REFERENCE POINT: Jesus reference point always revolved around the will of God.

John 6:38

For I came down from heaven, NOT TO TO MY OWN WILL but THE WILL OF HIM WHO SENT ME.

John 17:4

I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
